CAYENNE PEPPER

SONY DSCToday we would like to talk about a well-known and widely used plant – cayenne pepper. The ripe fruits of this plant are used as a popular spice, but cayenne peppers also are dried and powdered or tinctured for medical purposes.

Cayenne pepper belongs to the Capsicum family of vegetables which are commonly known as chilli peppers. It is named for the city Cayenne in French Guiana because of its cultivation there.

The botanical name of the plant is Capsicum annuum.

Cayenne is an excellent source of vitamin A. It is also a very good source of vitamins E, C, B6, fiber and manganese.

Cayenne pepper  has been used for a variety of conditions and here are just a few health benefits of the plant.

It is a good anti-irritant and can ease upset stomach, ulcers, diarrhea and sore throat.

Cayenne helps digestion, relieves intestinal gas and stimulates intestinal peristaltic motion.

It serves as a good anti-cold and anti-flue agent.

This plant has excellent anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

It has been used as a joint-pain reliever and anti-allergen.

Cayenne pepper promotes heart health.

Historically Capsicum annuum been used as topical remedy to treat snake bites, rheumatism, sores, wounds and lumbago.

Cayenne pepper supports weight loss as it helps to reduce appetite and is a great metabolic booster which helps the body to burn fats.
